To undertake the Everest Base Camp Trek in Nepal, there are certain permits that you need to obtain. Here are the permits required and their associated costs as of my last knowledge update in September 2021. Please note that permit costs and regulations can change, so it’s always a good idea to double-check with the appropriate authorities or consult with a local trekking agency for the most up-to-date information.

Mount Everest the world’s tallest peak
  1. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit Cost: NPR 3,000 (about USD 30) per person.
  2. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit:For individual trekkers: NPR 2,000 (about USD 20) per person. For trekkers traveling with a group: NPR 1,000 (about USD 10) per person.

It’s worth noting that the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entry Permit (TIMS Card) was introduced to track trekkers and ensure their safety. However, there have been discussions about replacing it with a new system, so the requirements may change in the future.

Additionally, if you’re planning to trek to other areas like Gokyo Lakes or Cho La Pass, you may need additional permits. These include the Gokyo Lakes Permit and the Three Passes Permit, which allow you to explore those specific regions.

For a hassle-free experience, it’s recommended to arrange these permits through a registered trekking agency in Nepal. They will assist you with the necessary paperwork and ensure that you have the correct permits before starting your trek. The costs mentioned above are subject to change, so it’s essential to verify the current fees to plan your budget accurately.
