Manaslu Circuit Trek Cost & Permit Fees!

Manalsu Circuit Trek is a restricted popular and unique adventure journey in Nepal. This is one of the acceptable and most delightful treks that offers the stunning scenario of the world’s 8th tallest peak Mount Manaslu, the fascinating Larkya La pass, diverse landscapes, monasteries, authentic villages, and marvelous Manaslu Himalayas. The Manalu Trek is a remarkable trip that can be completed within 11 to 14 days from Kathmandu.

However, it’s completely based on tea house and based on moderate level as well. Before hiking to the Manaslu region fine compulsory to know about the cost, itinerary, culture, climate, and best seasons as well. The cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek for a beginner traveler can vary based on a number of factors, including the duration of the trek, the type of accommodations, the services included, the season, and the trekking agency you choose. As of my last knowledge update in September 2023, here’s a rough estimate of the cost:

  1. Trekking Permits: The Manaslu Circuit Trek requires special permits, including the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit. These permits can cost a few hundred dollars in total.
  2. Trekking Agency: Many travelers opt to go through a trekking agency, especially beginners, as they provide guides, porters, accommodations, meals, and other logistics. The cost of the agency’s services can vary, but it often includes all-inclusive packages.
  3. Accommodation and Meals: Accommodation and meal costs can also vary based on the type of lodging you choose. Basic tea houses are more affordable, while more upscale lodges can cost more.
  4. Transportation: The trek starts and ends in Kathmandu. Transportation to and from the trek starting point, typically by bus or jeep, is an additional cost.
  5. Gear and Equipment: If you don’t have trekking gear, you might need to rent or purchase equipment like trekking boots, jackets, sleeping bags, and more.
  6. Miscellaneous Expenses: This can include tips for guides and porters, snacks, extra activities, and unforeseen expenses.
  7. Travel Insurance: It’s highly recommended to have travel insurance that covers trekking and medical emergencies. The cost of insurance can vary.

Considering these factors, as of 2022, a rough estimate for the total cost of the Manaslu Circuit Trek for a beginner traveler could range from around $1,000 to $2,000 or more. This is just an estimate and actual costs can vary. It’s also worth noting that trekking prices in Nepal can change over time due to various factors.

As of my last knowledge update in September 2022, the Manaslu Trek requires several permits due to its restricted area status and its passage through a conservation area. The permits you typically need for the Manaslu Circuit Trek are as follows:

  1. Manaslu Restricted Area Permit: This is the main permit required for the Manaslu Trek, as the trail passes through a restricted area. The cost of the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit varies depending on the season: September to November: USD $100 per week, and USD $10 for each additional day. December to August: USD $70 per week, and USD $7 for each additional day.
  2. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Since the Manaslu Trek also passes through the Annapurna Conservation Area, you need an ACAP permit. As of 2023, the cost for this permit is: For foreign nationals: NPR 3,000 (about USD $25).
  3. TIMS Card: The Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) card is also required for the Manaslu Trek. There are two types of TIMS cards: TIMS Card (Individual Trekkers): USD $20TIMS Card (Organized Trekkers through a trekking agency): USD $10

When is an ideal time for Manaslu Trek?

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is best undertaken during certain times of the year when the weather and trail conditions are favorable. The ideal time for the Manaslu Trek is generally considered to be during the pre-monsoon (spring) and post-monsoon (autumn) seasons. Here’s a breakdown of these seasons:

  1. Spring (March to May): Spring is one of the most popular times to trek in the Manaslu region. The weather is relatively stable, with warmer temperatures and clear skies. The trail is adorned with colorful rhododendron blooms and lush vegetation. This season offers excellent visibility of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. It’s a great time for photography as well.
  2. Autumn (September to November): Another peak season for trekking, autumn is characterized by clear skies, moderate temperatures, and dry weather. The post-monsoon period ensures that the trail is relatively free of rain and mud. The views of the mountains are usually exceptional during this time, and it’s a preferred season for both trekking and climbing.

Both spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures during the day and cool nights, making them ideal for trekking. The Manaslu region experiences less crowding compared to the Everest and Annapurna regions, but it’s still advisable to book accommodations and permits in advance during these peak seasons.

Keep in mind that the Manaslu Circuit Trek involves higher altitudes, and the weather can be quite unpredictable in the mountains. It’s recommended to check the weather forecasts and be prepared for changing conditions regardless of the season you choose.

Avoiding the monsoon season (June to August) is advisable due to heavy rainfall and the increased risk of landslides and difficult trail conditions. Similarly, the winter months (December to February) are less popular due to colder temperatures, snow-covered trails, and potential issues with high mountain passes.

Always check with local trekking agencies for the most current information on weather and trail conditions before embarking on the trek.
